Die Suche nach dem englischen Begriff wird einem durch diese unterschiedlichen deutschen Namen natürlich nicht erleichtert, wobei hier die meisten Werke vom semi-decidous woodland, oder, wie auch die nutrition and agriculture association (FAO) vom tropical wet deciduous wooded area sprechen.
Der Bezeichnung nach lassen sich nach Richter (1997, 2001), Schultz (1995) und der FAO (http://www.fao.org/forestry/home/en/) die unterschiedlichsten Regionen der Erde dieser Vegetationszone zuordnen, nämlich Teile von Mittel- und Südamerika, Afrika, Asien und Australien. Wenn es um die genaue Angabe der Verbreitungsgebiete geht, so scheiden sich in der Literatur wieder die Geister. Manche Autoren grenzen die Gebiete des halbimmergrünen Regenwaldes und der Monsunwälder viel stärker ein als andere, beispielsweise wird bei Einigen der Norden Australiens gar nicht mehr zur quarter dazu gezählt. In dieser Arbeit habe ich hauptsächlich die Karten der FAO, die im FAO international wooded area assets evaluation 2000, major record dargestellt sind, für Detailinformationen zu den einzelnen Ländern als Grundlagen gewählt. Eine Ausnahme bildet wie bereits erwähnt Australien, welches ich für diese Arbeit aber trotzdem kurz mit einbeziehen will.
